RENFREW co-manager Colin Clark insists survival will be the main aim for the New Western Park side next season.

Frew are on a high after a season which started with them moving to their new ground and ended with a title celebration as they won the Central District First Division.

Now back in the Super Leagues and up against some big clubs, Clark isn’t getting carried away.

He said: “We have to try and consolidate in this league.

“When we were relegated from this league a few years ago we were adrift early on. We always knew we would struggle in that league with the inexperience we had at the time.

“The likes of Petershill, Shettleston, Clydebank, Irvine Meadow and Cumbernauld, those five teams will probably think anything less than top three is disappointing. Everyone else will be looking to consolidate with four teams going down.”

Success next season might depend on Frew continuing their impressive form at New Western Park, where they lost just once last season.

However Clark is wary that the 4G surface will also be welcomed by the better quality sides in the Super League First Division.

He said: “Our pitch was good to us last season, we only lost one competitive game at home.

“But the better quality sides will relish playing at New Western Park because it’s such a good surface..

“It’s going to be more difficult from that point of view and we have to be ready for that.”

Renfrew have a squad of around 20 signed players already while former Johnstone Burgh midfielder Sean Fitzharris, forward Kyle Cummings (Kilwinning Rangers) and midfielder Gregor Wylie (Queen’s Park) are on trial trying to earn deals.

Clark revealed he is still on the lookout for a striker after injury ruled out last year’s top scorer Alain Kinney for the season.

He added: “Sean Fitzharris hasn’t signed but he is still on trial. We have to be patient because he’s had a tight hamstring so hasn’t featured as much as we would’ve liked.

“The club has to fit him as well as him fitting for us. We need to see if he is comfortable with the way we work and play, it’s taking a few weeks to assess that so we’ll take it from there.

“Kyle Cummings is in from Kilwinning Rangers and Gregor Wylie from Queen’s Park.

“We have to give them (the trialists) time.

“If they come in and do better than the guys we have there is no issue, players in the squad already will have to be casualties.”“We could be doing with another striker but players of Alain Kinney’s quality don’t become available very often and they’re not cheap so we’re going to be cute in that department and see what becomes available.”
