DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a 17 year-old man was seriously assaulted on Saturday.

Around 12.05am, a teenager was walking along a footpath near to the Shell Garage and Park Mains High School in Erskine when he was attacked.

The young man was struck on the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

The person or persons responsible for the assault then ran off.

The victim sought help and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for head and facial injuries.

He has since been released.

Officers have been carrying out a search of the area in an effort to find out more information about the suspect(s).

Detective Constable Richard Grant said: "There is no known motive for this attack and we are trying to establish why this young man was assaulted.

"The attacker(s) approached the victim from behind so he did not see who was responsible.

"We are in the process of gathering up CCTV footage from the surrounding areas in the hope that it provides us with additional information.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident to contact us with any information they may have."
