1. Talented music duo up for prestigious award
A talented music duo were in the running for a prestigious award which could see them perform at a major festival.
Johnstone-based guitarist Edwin Gallacher and Paisley singer Pauline Alexander had joined a shortlist of 14 performers who had been nominated for an Isambard Folk Award and called upon support to help make their hope of winning come true.
The would-be winners of the award would see them perform on the main stage with R.S.V.P. and Spiers & Boden for their evening concert at the Bristol Folk Festival too.
2. Tartan team effort
Staff from Capability Scotland’s Corseford School put their best feet forward to take part in a charity Kiltwalk.
The Corseford Kilties walked the full 23-mile route from the Hydro in Glasgow to the shores of Loch Lomond.
3. Brave Abbie’s race to honour mum
Abbie Miller had barely started primary school when she lost her mum to cancer.
But three years after her tragic death, the inspirational Johnstone girl had completed the Race for Life in her mother’s memory.
Karen Whiteman was just 33 when she died after a harrowing battle with cervical cancer.
The brave mum-of-two was determined to beat her illness but, sadly, the cancer became so aggressive that it also targeted her bowels and bladder.
She lost her fight in July 2011, leaving her two daughters, Abbie, 8, and Ainsley, 16, as well as her family and friends, devastated.
4. Play time for kids with new park
The first phase of a brand-new play park in Houston has been unveiled.
Residents in the village were celebrating the opening this week after two years of fundraising efforts in the local community led by the Houston Play Park Improvement Group.
The official opening was undertaken by group chairwoman Deborah Stewart and Labour councillor Stuart Clark, who has been an active supporter of the group members.
To cut the red ribbon they were joined by scores of local parents with kids desperate to enjoy the new facilities.
5. Fundraising dancers are a class act
Youngsters at a dance group in Linwood had put their best foot forward for a cause close to their hearts.
Local group Class Acts raised more than £300 at their annual parent's evening so that Linwood Elderly Forum can put the cash towards its 2014 summer outing.
The group, based in Woodlands Primary School, will also be showing off new uniforms at a local variety show organised by the Linwood Independent Fundraising Team (LIFT) to say a fond farewell to the Old Tweedie Hall.
6. Burger King's award
A local butcher has struck gold with their special burgers for the summer of 2014.
Elderslie Butcher had success in the recent Craft Butcher Awards evaluation for speciality burgers and speciality barbecue products that were judged at the City of Glasgow College.
The success came with gold awards for their Outback BBQ Burger, Mexicana Chilli Burger and Black Pudding and Caramelised Onion Burger.
