St Mirren women's team have launched a fundraiser after "substantial" equipment was stolen from their training ground.

The training ground at Mossedge Village in Linwood was raided earlier this month on March 1, with a storage container containing training balls, match balls, foldable subs benches, camera platform and substitute jackets nicked.

The cost of the replacement of the stolen goods is expected to be almost £2000.

Police have confirmed that they launched an investigation which is still ongoing.

Mossedge Village hosts both St Mirren Women and Girls Academy, with the recent incident now set to have a "negative impact" on the 60-70 players from the local community.

They launched a fundraiser last week to replace the equipment and have already broken through their target of £2250 - they have currently raised £2350.

A post on the fundraiser read: "On Friday, March 1, our storage container at our training venue Mossedge Village Linwood, was broken into and substantial amount of equipment was stolen.

"This included all our training balls, match balls, foldable subs benches, camera platform, substitute jackets as well as many other training items.

"This has had a significant impact on our U16, U18 and women's team. Police are currently investigating the matter.

"However, we are looking to raise funds to fully replace all the equipment stolen.

"The estimated cost of replacement is £1500-£2000. Being largely self-funded, this will have a negative impact on the provision of football to around 60-70 players from our local community.

"We are looking for help to raise funds to replace the equipment as quickly as possible for the players and coaches.

"Any donation would be massively appreciated."

After four hours of launching the fundraiser, the group raised over 50% of their target.

Tracey Patrick-Cooper, organiser of the GoFundMe, praised the fans for sticking by them in their time of need.

She said: "Thank you so much for the overwhelming support we have received this evening.

"In just four hours we have raised more than 50% of our target.

"We have the most amazing fans and the wider football community is just fabulous.

"This means so much to our U16, U18 and senior teams. Thank you!"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.20pm on Tuesday, March 5, we received a report of a break-in to a container in Brediland Road.

"Enquiries are ongoing.”
