A number of businesses impacted by the St James Business Centre closure in Linwood have hit out at the "lack" of information.

Companies who are based at the business site on Linwood Road were notified earlier this month that the building would close.

The reason cited for the closure was due to the building "reaching the end of its economic life span".

Now, several businesses that are being forced to move have made their feelings known regarding the process of how they were informed and how they are still "left in limbo" in terms of options.

Colin Thomas, owner of Xtensive Web Design and Marketing, revealed that he has been told nothing regarding the new site.

This is despite everyone who received the letter being told that plans would "be ready for circulation" from February 19.

In a letter, seen by the Renfrewshire Gazette, tenants were offered the chance to move to nearby buildings.

It stated that small suites at the nearby Phoenix Business Park and St James Business Park would be available for people who would like to move.

Those who choose to move their businesses to these units are being offered two months rent-free as an "incentive" to "assist with relocation and disruption costs".

Colin and his business have been at the St James Business Centre for 11 years and he admits that this move is now forcing him to relook at his budget.

He said: "It was two weeks ago that I received the letter and I actually didn't expect it at all.

"I have still not heard anything at all about the options. No explanation and nothing new at all about the new building.

"There is now lots of time being spent on looking for a new area and when you have 48 businesses looking at the same time it is hard.

"I feel sorry for others who are in the same boat.

"It is all inconvenient and was something I didn't expect.

"It was not budgeted for at all and now I am having to spend lots of money on a new office.

"There have been no efforts to help people and no details told."

The Gazette:

Lauren Houston, of The Lash and Beauty Lounge, which is also based at the site, has said the situation has caused stress.

The beauty technician has been based in Linwood for almost two years.

We previously reported how tenants were reportedly told that they had to move out by April 9 in a letter that was distributed to all business owners at the start of February.

And the experience has forced her to question why she should "rely" on the building owners in the future.

She said: "The process has cost a lot of money to secure a new unit.

"We are lucky to have got one.

"But after this process, we would not have stayed with them [St James Business Centre] at all.

"I didn't want to have to rely on them in the future after this.

"Why should I?

"It has been really stressful and we are now having to spend a lot of money that wasn't planned."

St James Business Centre has been contacted for comment.
