A heroic mum is sharing her cancer journey with the world as she aims to "spread an important message".

Robyn McLean was admitted to A&E in December 2023 after suffering from severe groin and chest pains.

This is when she discovered that she had stage five ALK-positive adenocarcinoma lung cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body such as her bones and brain.

The Gazette:

She said: "To be honest, it was a huge shock and I didn't take it in at first.

"But I am a very pragmatic person so I started firing questions to the consultant asking how this could happen.

"My mum and husband were with me when they told me. They were devastated, to say the least.

"My first thoughts were 'how did I get here?' I went into A&E for chest and groin pains and now I am being told I have lung cancer.

"It was just a huge shock to me, it is only now slightly sinking in."

Robyn has said that her husband has been a "pillar of strength" and helped the family keep their spirits up.

Originally born in South Africa and now living in Inchinnan, the mother of two wants to fight "all the way" to ensure that she can see her children grow up and have their own lives.

Daughter Jessica, seven, and son Taylor, 11, have been keeping their mum on her toes still, admits Robyn.

The family enjoy going out for walks and fishing.

The 39-year-old has also taken to social media to tell her story to the world as she has detailed her daily life since being diagnosed through platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

In the short videos that she posts to her followers, Robyn gives daily updates on how she feels, what she will be doing and what her thoughts are.

Robyn says the posts aim to help people who may be going through the same journey in some way.

She added: "But it was also done for my own documentation of my journey and how it goes.

"And to also help others out there who may be going through the same thing too.

"I’m 39 years of age and a non-smoker and keep relatively healthy."

Before having to take some time off work, Robyn ran her own business called JT Collab and Training Studios on Dumbarton Road in Partick, Glasgow.

The health and beauty salon was a business that the Renfrewshire mum has worked on for 15 years and it was something she was proud of.

However, since early December Robyn has not been able to work which has resulted in being little to no income.

She has been able to survive paying for bills and food thanks to a gofundme started by her sister-in-law Laura Beaton who stays in England but wanted to try and help anyway she could.

Whilst Robyn has applied for benefits, at this time she has not received any.

Laura said: "Robyn is such a wonderful, happy and caring person.

"I have known her for well over 15 years and she is just amazing. I wanted to help any way I could and this was the only way I knew how.

"The purpose of the gofundme was to allow people who may want to help be able to donate a pound or two that would go to helping pay for some food for the fridge, or help contribute to some bills.

"People have sent loads of flowers which I know Robyn has really loved, so it was just there for people who may want to try and help another way.

"We are a close family and we are supporting each other."

So far, more than £4000 has been raised in donations.

A statement on the page read: "Although we are currently still waiting for biopsy results and a more medical name for it than f****r, life has been turned upside down for Robyn and the family.

"My intention here is to offer them some practical help...

"Whether it's for cat food or toilet roll (which is always running out), calling a takeaway after a busy or painful day, taking the kids out for some fun, getting a night away, paying a bill or anything else they want (but not more Tupperware, they don't need more of that!)

"So, if you'd like to help but can't quite think how then feel free to drop a few quid in here to help them fight this while the docs do their bit to allow Rob fight this f*****r."
