A KIND-hearted man is hoping to help feed local families in need over the festive period through his pop-up foodbank in Renfrewshire.

It comes after Graham Welsh, who runs the Paisley Christmas Foodbank, has revealed it will be open again this year on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17.

Located in Unit 13 of the Paisley Centre, the good cause will be open to anyone across the area who needs free support amidst the cost-of-living crisis.

Returning for its fifth year, the caring man said he originally started the foodbank himself; however, he now works alongside Nicky Edoni and Kerry McVey to run the pop-up.

“It started off as me and it was going to be called ‘Graham’s Food Drive’ because I would just drive around collecting food and then drop it off at a foodbank,” Graham said.

“However, now it’s called Paisley Christmas Foodbank.

“It’s now the three of us that kind of chip away at it all year to open the store.

“We only open it for the weekend and it’s whoever comes and gets food – no questions asked or no judgement.”

The Paisley man revealed he started the initiative as he believes no one should be going hungry over the Christmas period.

Graham said: “I don’t think anybody should be going hungry, but I think Christmas is the one day of the year that we should all have full bellies”.

Aiming to help feed as many locals in need as possible, the kind-hearted man also revealed last year they managed to hand out around 500 food parcels and this year they are aiming to do the same.

He added: “The need for it every year seems to be getting more and more.

“We collect more and more every year, while last year the food went away in one morning.”
