UPDATE: The road has fully reopened.
Forensics have been spotted on a section of the M8 near Glasgow Airport that is still shut due to a fire.
We previously reported that the westbound road had been shut at junction 28a since around 3.40am due to vehicle fire.
Officers confirmed that a full investigation has been launched and that a 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged road traffic offence.
Images taken this afternoon showed police were still at the scene while the area remains closed.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.55am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, police received a report of a damaged vehicle on fire, on the M8 near junction 29, Paisley.
"Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished.
"A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
"The road is currently closed to allow for investigation and recovery to take place.
"Local diversions are in place."
