An investigation has been launched after a car was deliberately set alight in Johnstone.

Emergency services who rushed to the scene in Heron Place at around 10.30pm on Sunday, August 27, found the parked vehicle ablaze.

The flames were put out before anyone was injured but the car was left extensively damaged.

Officers have confirmed the incident is being treated as wilful fireraising.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.45pm on Sunday, August 27, police were called to a report that a car had been deliberately set alight outside a house on Heron Place, Johnstone.

"There were no reports of anyone being injured, however, the car has been extensively damaged.

"Officers are treating the fire as wilful and enquiries are continuing."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
