BISHOPTON revellers hosted their very own street party while raising cash for a children's charity.

Families living in Gatehead Crescent had initially entered the Happy Street competition run by Clyde 1 to win a party for their neighbourhood.

After competing against two other areas in Scotland, the Bishopton community managed to raise an impressive £4,331.

Glen Lochy Court in Dumbarton however triumphed with a fundraising figure of £4,533 which will go towards the Cash for Kids charity.

Regardless, resident Nicole Deehan was glad that her Bishopton street could contribute to the charity which helps children affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, disability and life-threatening illness across the west of Scotland.

And they event went ahead to throw their own bash to celebrate the hard work they put into fundraising.

Nicole said: "Although we were disappointed we didn't win, we had always spoken about hosting our own street party so decided to go ahead with the plan as we always would have.

"We went around each household who contributed around £10 each, which went towards the event.

"There was around 45 adults and 30 kids - there was plenty of fun had on the day."

Neighbours enjoyed treats like pizza, chicken and juice.

Kids got involved in goals and basketball, while there was glitter tattoos, piñatas, a bouncy castle and water balloons to keep them entertained.

"It was a really nice day having the community all together," said Nicole.

"The kids all had a ball and it was a fabulous event.

"Everyone worked so hard to raise money for the charity competition with our bake sales and other fundraising events.

"We had to do something for the kids as they were so looking forward to having a party.

"We hope to make this a regular thing now and hope to host something for Halloween as our next event."
