HUNDREDS of people came out to Ingliston Country Club for their first ever Family Fun Day.

A range of activities were put on at the Bishopton venue on Sunday, August 14 including pony rides, a petting zoo, wall climbing, classic cars and a bouncy castle.

The event was free to enter with kids getting up close and personal with owls, horses and even the odd snake - as well as taking part in games, stalls and other activities.

Despite complaints about queues at some attractions in the event, which the country club has agreed to improve for next time, the day was hailed an overall success.

The entire day, outwith the pony riding, was done indoors - meaning regardless of the weather the event could go ahead.

Brian Main, marketing manager at Ingliston Country Club revealed that because of the success they plan to hopefully repeat the event at Christmas as well as annually during the summer.

He said: "This is the first time we have done an event like this, we wanted to try out something different - we normally have lots of wedding events and horse shows but we thought we would try out this fun event and see how it goes.

"It turned out to be a great day, there was lots of activities and stalls so there was plenty to do. We wanted to establish the event and see if it worked and without doubt it was really received well."

Brian added: "We had a mixture of everything. The classic cars went down really well, as did all our stalls for food and fashion items. Our petting areas and attractions meant there was lots to do for kids and being mixed with live entertainment meant there was a lot of variety.

"It got to the point that there was around a two hour queue for the pony riding but we've learned from that about how to improve for any future events like this.

"We are aware of budgets and with it being the last weekend before school starts making the event free to enter meant parents didn't need to think about cost."
